Can We Cure Addiction?

"Can we cure addiction? Absolutely not! This is because addiction has caused unrecoverable changes, alterations and death to brain cells. Brain cells cannot be regenerated, so the changes caused by the drug abuser are permanent. What we can do is arrest the illness, teach new living techniques, rewrite the brain to bypass those addicted cells and give the addict in recovery a worthwhile life. It can't be cured but addiction can be effectively prevented and treated."

Darryl Inaba, Pharm.D.

RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT PROGRAMS

The life-long journey in recovery starts when an addict finally admits and accepts her or his addiction as life-long and surrenders to the long-term, one-day-at-a-time treatment process.

OUTPATIENT PROGRAMS

Continued participation in group, family, and 12-step programs is the key to maintaining long-term abstinence from alcohol and drugs. The addict must accept that addiction is chronic, progressive, incurable, and potentially fatal and that relapse is always possible.

"I know that I have another relapse in me. I don't know if I have another recovery in me."

Garry Larabee, RAS, CSC

Garry has been working in the field of addiction treatment for over 9 years. He holds nationally accredited certifications as a Registered Addiction Specialist and Clinical Supervisor Credential through Breining Institute, College for the Advanced Study of Addictive Disorders. He joined Able to Change Recovery in 2001 and has been instrumental in the development and growth of the company's Addiction Treatment Programs in Orange County. As Program Director, he manages day-to-day administrative and clinical operations and is responsible for ensuring program compliance with the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and California's Alcohol and Drug Programs licensing and certification branch.

Garry successfully formed an effective multidisciplinary team of compassionate and caring qualified addiction treatment professionals and residential support staff that share the company's mission and philosophy. He is dedicated to the continuous quality improvement of Able to Change Recovery's treatment programs and makes every effort to maintain a program that clients' will find as being well-structured, comforting, stimulating, and highly effective. His efforts have attributed to the success of the program and its reputation as a leading California Coastal Rehab where high standards and ethics can be assured to the recovering community.

Garry is committed to assisting the needs of recovering alcoholics, addicts, and their families. It is his belief, that all individuals have the ability to change their life to one that is worthwhile; that the "window of opportunity " to enter treatment is limited and exposure to treatment must have a positive and reassuring impact to retain the client long enough to get well. Garry's goal is to set a standard that all community-based residential treatment programs strive to meet, a standard that will ultimately produce quality addiction treatment care with positive outcomes.
